Pool Table Maintenance and Repair is a manual to assemble, re-cover, re-cushion, level, and repair any pool table. It also thoroughly covers the structure of pool tables and equipment, and the complexities of pool table moving, and installation. (Size: 8½ x 11, 300 pages, 269 illustrations.) By Mose Duane.
Pool & Billiard Magazine Pool Table Maintenance and Repair by Mose Duane is a truly comprehensive book on installing a pool table, disassembling it for moving and storage, doing all kinds of repairs, and keeping your table in top shape, and a lot more. Any billiard business should have at least one copy of this reference book close at hand. It's thoroughly illustrated with top-notch drawings that make every technique crystal clear.
Duane has over 25 years of experience in the business and it shows. He's picked up some undocumented tricks along the way that will save you both time and money, and help you do a more professional job. Three-piece slate tables, 1-piece slate tables, non-slate tables, cushions, cutting and installing bed and rail cloth, frames, all pocket styles, gully systems, aprons, tools, leveling, buying and selling a table.....there's nothing left out. Duane isn't vague, either. Every step is detailed even if you're new in the business you can use this book as an instruction manual. Old hands will find plenty of extra tips and insights. Though tables are the main topic of the book, it also covers specs of all kinds, cue repair, balls, and other equipment. As an added bonus, there's a section on "Playing the Game." Pool Table Maintenance and Repair is highly recommended for anyone dealing with the sales, installation, and repair of pool tables and associated equipment. -- Thomas C. Shaw, Pool & Billiard Magazine
Chalk and Cue Magazine Readers with a more than passing interest in their vehicle are probably familiar with Clymer or Haines series of car and motorcycle repair manuals. With one of these manuals and a set of tools you could theoretically do most of the work on your vehicle yourself. . . . Mose Duane's Pool Table Maintenance and Repair makes me believe that if I were to study it closely enough, I could build my own pool table or, at the very least, install one. Though I'm not likely to put a table in my apartment any time soon I still found this a fascinating and instructive book. I passed it along to a billiard mechanic acquaintance of mine to get his more informed opinion on it. It took me several weeks to get the book back, and he asked me to order him a copy. Duane has drawn on his almost thirty years of experience as a billiard mechanic to give step-by-step instructions for installing or repairing anything from a bar box to a full size snooker table. The first section of the book has individual chapters devoted to rails, pockets, cloth, frames, the playing surface, legs and pedestals. Duane does an excellent job of breaking down what could be complicated information and making it easy to understand. The chapter about rails starts with a detailed cross-section diagram of a typical flat rail. There are three kinds of rails, and Duane describes and diagrams them all. This is the kind of detailed yet simple explanation that runs through the entire book. This is the only book that I've seen that completely explains all billiard table maintenance. . . . If you already own a table, investing in this book could save you some money, especially if you are at all handy. . . . I think Duane could have . . . simply called the book "The Billiard Equipment Guidebook". That's where it truly shines. -- Rhonda Jackman, Chalk and Cue: Canada's Billiard Magazine
