Buying or Selling a Pool Table is the most in-depth book on how to buy or sell a new or used pool table you will find. There are several components (differences in playing surfaces, cushions, accessories, etc.) that must be looked at before a purchase or sale should be completed. This is a must have book if you are considering buying or selling a pool table. There is even a ranking of most major brands of tables (Size: 6 x 9, 178 pages, 61 illustrations). By Mose Duane.

Table-Buying For Experts, this slim volume will more than pay for itself.

-- George Fels, Billiards Digest

Bottom line: If you're going to buy or sell a new or used pool table you'd better have this book.
-- Thomas C. Shaw, Pool & Billiard Magazine

. . . now there's a superb book, pragmatically titled Buying or Selling a Pool Table, by Mose Duane, that can turn naive shoppers into expert ones.
Mr. Duane has also authored The Billiard Guidebook (Pool Table Maintenance and Repair) and    Dirty Pool: Playing to Win (Playing Winning Pool) . . . this book is well organized as well as     meticulously written and edited. In this volume, he analyzes rails, playing surface, frames and cabinets,    finish, cushions, pockets, cloth and accessories, with valuable insights that could potentially save    hundreds if not thousands of dollars. There are some very wise inserts titled Buyer Tips, Seller Tips, and Words of Experience. . . .

For example, the book offers you an 18-page chapter of wisdom on rails alone. Did you know there are three kinds . . . and should they be attached to the table frame or the slate itself, and why?
His chapter on cabinets and frames is equally useful (and so is every other chapter in the book).  For example, I would have had no clue that there are two basic types of cabinets. Again, Mr. Duane gives you all your options, clearly illustrated and described, along with valuable recommendations.
As a final reason for owning this fine work, I'll simply quote one of several "Words of Wisdom" asides that are also part of it: "Last week, I delivered a table that someone had paid a thousand dollars too much for. When I delivered it, I said, 'You know, there's a book available that explains the differences between tales that would've saved you hundreds of dollars.' His answer: 'I didn't want to spend the twenty-five bucks.'"
If you're considering a purchase or sale, or know someone who is, this book is about the biggest favor you could do for either of you. It's quite remarkable that no one has approached this subject in this kind of depth before, but Mr. Duane has made up for lost time.
      -- George Fels, Billiards Digest

Buying or Selling a Pool Table . . . If you're going to buy a pool table (new or used)--or sell one--you need this book, it's that simple. Why skimp on the price of the book when investing two, or three, or four thousand dollars (or more)? It wouldn't be a bad idea for someone who already owns a table to have a copy, as well. In fact, we can recommend that.
The book is very well organized, which makes it easy to use, and there's additional information about buying the accessories that go with your table (chalk, rack, balls, lights, dust cover, etc.).
Very few table buyers look underneath the table, and those that do usually don't have any idea what they're looking for. It's like the used car buyer who lifts the hood and says, "Yep, engine's there." That's only natural, because buying a pool table isn't an everyday experience, and there's no reason anyone should have picked up that knowledge in general conversation. Duane's book has that info, however.
After reading it you'll know what's good, and what's not so good, about any pool table you're looking at. That could make all the difference in the world. From playing surface to leg attachment, you'll know what you're buying before you plunk down your hard earned cash.
